Celebrating America’s Older Workers

It’s National Employ Older Workers Week!

From September 18 through September 24, employers and organizations across the country will celebrate older workers and bring attention to the important role those aged 55 and older play in the workforce.

“At the HomeCare Advocacy Network (HomeCare), we don’t just care for seniors – we hire them,” said Sierra Goetz, operations manager at HomeCare. “Many of our older caregivers want more than a paycheck. They want to try something new. They want to stay active. And, most importantly, they want to make a difference in the lives of others. With many years of life and work experience, retirees have so much to offer – that’s why they’re such great caregivers.”

In addition to the privilege of making a difference, Goetz said other factors make professional caregiving a good option, including:

Flexibility

You will often have the freedom to choose between working part-time, full-time, nights, or weekends. You can tailor your schedule around hobbies, volunteering, and spending time with your grandkids – whatever fits your lifestyle.

Additional income

Your retirement income might be enough to pay the bills, but it’s always nice to have a little extra set aside for special gifts, vacations, etc.

Diversity

No two clients are alike and every day is different – caregiving is never boring.

Training and support

At HCAN, we’ll make sure you’re fully trained before you enter a client’s home, and we’ll provide you with the support you need to overcome any challenge.

Appreciation from others

Helping others probably makes you feel good – but it makes others feel good, too! Our staff, as well as the families you serve, appreciate everything you do!

Lasting relationships

Building positive relationships with clients is one of the most important aspects of caregiving – and it’s the most fun. Our caregivers often form close bonds with seniors and their families – relationships that endure long after the job is done.
