Senior Living and the Coronavirus Response
Eye on Experience with HCAN Corporate Trainer – Patrice Thabault
Listen to the HomeCare Hub podcast episode now:
Patrice Thabault has always known how to overcome. Brought up in New England and an avid Pats fan in a big family, she has always been a fighter. Her family has battled everything from a parent being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s to operating her own small business for well over a decade. When Patrice sold that small business in 2016 which operated in the senior care space in Burlington, VT, someone as competitive and well-seasoned as Patrice, or Pat as her friends call her, couldn’t sit on the sidelines.
During Patrice’s tenure as a home care operator, she consistently hit the highest marks of quality care, market penetration, and overall sales of any comparative business in her market size. Naturally when someone like Patrice is on the bench, given her leadership skills and know-how, the world has a way of calling on you to help others and employ all of your leadership skills and know-how at just the right time. Patrice was asked to step in as interim executive director for a senior living community right before Covid-19 was even heard of. Patrice accepted the call to help and from that experience, she now shares newfound respect for those serving inside of senior living communities every day.
During Patrice’s tenure and through Covid, 3 lessons stick out to Patrice, Communication, compassion (with everyone), and closely related, empathy. The community where Patrice served was fortunate to have zero Covid-19 related deaths during the height of the Pandemic. Staying true to herself, she found that communication was the new currency for success in providing quality care that had the chance of saving lives. “Spending 2-3 hours a day to make sure my team had what they needed to deliver care and comfort to others was key. I needed to be in close communication and be ready to listen to those on my team who needed it most” Patrice stated. Patrice also is taking with her from the experience newfound empathy and compassion for those who serve. Being on the front lines has helped mold and shape her to serve those who will be partnering with HomeCare Advocacy Network in the future.
Senior living organizations will be better prepared for the future by offering services they haven’t typically offered successfully in the past. HomeCare Advocacy Network or HCAN, offers an opportunity for franchised home care to be owned by the community, serving residents both on and off campus. HCAN’s leadership, which is deep in home care and senior living experience, brings a passion for reliable care and is excited about democratizing the home care business model for senior living and for entrepreneurs. HCAN is excited to have Patrice as a key partner in helping craft the next generation of both senior living and home care.
