A little more than a year ago, Sierra and I took a leap of faith and embarked on a new journey – founding the HomeCare Advocacy Network (HCAN). While we expected a few bumps in the road, we never dreamed we would be growing a business during a global pandemic. However, with the support of loving family members, dedicated partners, and forward-thinking investors, we kept pushing forward – determined to not only survive… but THRIVE.
As you may know, we’re driven by first-hand experience with compassionate caregiving. When Sierra’s stepmother, Fran, was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, her father, Terry, began making all of the necessary plans to take care of her at home. He was willing to do whatever it took to give Fran the best care possible – including turning to family members and professional caregivers when he needed help. To honor Terry and Fran’s legacy, we made the commitment to be there for other families who are willing to do whatever it takes to care for senior loved ones.
We launched our business as the only franchisor with two ownership options – one for individual entrepreneurs and one for senior living providers. For senior living providers, we offer a unique, white-label partnership – providing the training, structure, and system support needed to help them effectively add home care services to their business.
In just a few short months, Sierra and I were able to assemble an incredible team of highly-skilled, experienced, and passionate professionals – a team that’s committed to serving seniors and their families, while empowering a new wave of caregivers in an evolving industry.
This spring, two of our team members, Ryan and Juli Gray, opened the first HCAN franchise – serving families who live in Douglas County, Nebraska. They’re Omaha natives and their passion for caregiving is deeply rooted in both family and community. They currently employ 25 caregivers, who provide extraordinary care to more than 30 families – and those numbers are expected to keep growing in the coming weeks and months.
Shortly after our first franchise opened, word about our new business began to spread. We were excited to share our story, and information about our unique business model, with the likes of , the , , and the Midlands Business Journal.
As we moved through the year, we also commissioned white papers, offered webinars, and launched a new series of podcasts that focus on industry challenges, trends, and the outlook for the future of senior living and in-home care.
While we’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished during these unprecedented times, we know there’s still a lot of work to do. The need for compassionate caregiving and reliable in-home services – inside and outside of senior living communities – continues to grow.
We’re grateful for our many blessings, and we’re optimistic for the future as we aggressively pursue our goals to provide quality, compassionate care for seniors and their families, support senior living providers, and generate good, quality jobs in our communities.
