And this is how HCAN’s Companion Care Services help me feel…like me
My wife Shirley and I got married 16 years ago.
I’ll tell you the truth, we met through a matchmaking service. I remember the first time we met. I believe it was the 28th of June, 2003. I had to push it back about a week because I had a bloody nose that wouldn’t quit, believe it or not. We went to Runza. I had coffee and she had tea and we talked.
We started traveling and went on several cruises together. We went on an Alaskan cruise where I won a raffle for a Caribbean cruise. We celebrated our third anniversary there.
Tracy came into our lives a few years ago. Shirley started needing help and Tracy was her primary caregiver. Tracy also cared for me. She was one of the first people I contacted when Shirley passed away at our home in May of 2020.
Since then, Tracy has become my caregiver. When she made the switch to HCAN, I followed her.
Together, we’ve been through many of life’s ups and downs. I know about her children and grandchildren, and she knows about my family. We make each other laugh and we love each other like family. She’s even helped my diabetes. She preps my meals every day, helping me lose 50 pounds and counting.
I’ve downsized recently. I didn’t need that big house anymore that Shirley and I shared. Tracy helped me pick out places to tour and went to those with me. It’s nice to know she’s there to help me.
I’m glad Tracy and I haven’t shaken each other yet. Staying home versus going to a nursing home has made everything easier for me. I’m glad Shirley and I met Tracy – my friend and caregiver.

My Caregiver Tracy and I go way back, can’t you tell?
