It keeps me feeling like…ME!
I love my home. I love that it’s close to other places I enjoy. I love the memories that were created here.
Sometimes it wears on me, though. It wears on my emotional well-being. I miss my late wife and the commotion that lived in this home; my children and grandchildren coming and going, laughing, eating from my “junk drawer.” They still stop by, but it’s different now that she’s gone.
My house can be hard to maintain. I don’t like going downstairs where my laundry is. When a lightbulb goes out, I no longer feel comfortable climbing a ladder to reach it. All these little things start to become big.
I like feeling independent and don’t want to rely on anyone for help – both emotionally and physically. I still want to be able to find these things for myself, on my own. I also don’t see reliance as a sustainable solution. I never want to leave this place, but for a while there I thought I’d have to.
That’s until I discovered HCAN.
I had no idea that a caregiver could come into my home for a few hours a week and take care of all the little big things. Help with the lightbulbs. Play rummy or some other silly card game that’s a good time. Just to get another fresh perspective on life. It’s been a huge relief and it makes sense for me financially, too.
It’s been nice having a connection with someone whom I feel genuinely cares about me.
Now I’m certain my favorite place is my forever home. What a validating feeling knowing there are people out there who understood what I was feeling and the dilemma in front of me, who thought about it deeply and offered me a solution that I’m using for life.
